PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rhode Island
College held a decisive 31-5 advantage in shots, but was forced to
settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie vs. Plymouth State University
Saturday afternoon in Little East Conference men¹s soccer
action at the RIC Soccer Field.
The Anchormen raise their unbeaten conference mark to 4-0-1 and
their overall record to 8-4-3. The Panthers (4-8-2, 1-2-2) pick up
a much-needed point to remain in the hunt for the fifth and final
spot in the upcoming Little East Tournament. RIC remains in first
place in Little East action with two league games remaining.
RIC freshman goalkeeper Justin O¹Connor (North Kingstown,
R.I.) has yet to allow a goal in conference play, raising his
scoreless streak to 470 minutes. He made two saves, including a big
stop on PSU senior Adam Gove (Kingston, N.H.)
early in the second in the half, to elevate his record to 7-2-3 and
earn his seventh shutout.
PSU senior netminder Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.)
made 15 saves to earn his second shutout on the campaign.
The Anchormen kept the pressure on the Panthers for the entire
contest. In the 58th minute, the Plymouth State defense helped out
Shute by preventing a junior Ryan Kelley (Hope, R.I.) header from
crossing the goal line. In the 82nd minute, Shute denied senior
Brandon Migliore¹s (Coventry, R.I.) header to help force the
extra sessions.
Plymouth State plays its final regular season road game Wednesday
with a non-conference encounter at Castleton (4:00 p.m.) RIC
will face Westfield State on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
