MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Freshman Jane Handel (Evanston,
Ill.) recorded 15 kills Wednesday night to lead Middlebury College
to a 3-0 sweep over Plymouth State University in a non-conference
women's volleyball match.
The host Panthers won their second straight match to even their
record at 9-9 overall. The visiting Panthers dropped to 15-10
overall, continuing their streak of alternating wins and losses,
which they have done for the past 10 matches and 20 of the last 21.
Seniors Lindsay Patterson (Aspen, Colo.) and Kate Heath (Whitefish
Bay, Wisc.) added seven kills apiece for Middlebury. Junior Natalie
DuPre (Louisville, Ky.) earned 19 digs defensively, while Patterson
had 14 and sophomore Lauren Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) dished out 33
assists.
PSU's top hitter, junior Eliza Badeau (Foster,
R.I.), was limited to eight kills and four blocks, while classmate
Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) finished with
five kills.
Plymouth State plays a pair of key Little East Conference matches
this Saturday at UMass Dartmouth, facing UMass Boston at 2:00 p.m.
and UMD at 4:00 p.m. (UMD faces UMB at 12 noon). The outcome
of all three matches will be pivotal in determining the LEC regular
season standings.
