Box Score
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore
Michael Alves (Seekonk, Mass.) scored his second goal of the game
midway through the second half Saturday afternoon as the University
of Massachusetts Dartmouth came back to salvage a 2-2
double-overtime draw against Plymouth State University in a Little
East Conference men's soccer match at Panther Field.
The Panthers had taken a 2-1 lead in the first half on goals by
freshman Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) and senior
Adam Gove (Kingston, N.H.), sandwiched around
Alves' first of the game. The deadlock leaves PSU at 5-8-3 overall
and 1-2-3 in LEC matches, while UMD is now 7-8-1 overall and 2-3-1
in conference play. The Corsairs are tied for fourth with one LEC
game to play, while the Panthers are in sixth place. The top
five teams advance to the LEC Tournament at the end of the regular
season.
Cabral gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead when he headed home a free kick
from senior Semir Mehmedovic (Concord, N.H.) 12
minutes into the game. Alves scored on a free kick at the
other end of the field three minutes later the tie up the match,
but Gove put the Panthers back in the lead in the 28th minute
following a nice pass from sophomore Tommy Schrey
(Munich, Germany). Both Cabral and Gove scored for PSU for the
second straight game.
Alves tallied the only goal of the second half in the 69th minute,
and neither team was able to knock one home in the 20 minutes left
in regulation or the 20 minutes of overtime.
PSU finished with a 21-12 advantage in shots. Both
goalkeepers, UMD freshman Anel Brkic (Milford, Mass.) and PSU
senior Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) made five
saves.
Plymouth State concludes the regular season next Saturday on Senior
Day at Panther Field against UMass Boston (1:00 p.m.), while the
Corsairs return home to host Bridgewater State Tuesday on Senior
Day at UMD (6:00 p.m.)
