NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Plymouth State
University women's volleyball team split a pair of Little East
Conference matches Saturday afternoon, sweeping the University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth in three sets after falling to the
University of Massachusetts Boston in the same fashion.
The Panthers started the day with a 25-14, 25-23, 25-21 setback to
UMB but rebounded with a 25-22, 25-14, 26-24 victory over
UMD. The Beacons also defeated the Corsairs in four
sets. PSU is now 16-11 overall and 2-4 in LEC matches, while
UMB is 21-7 and 3-1 and UMD is 12-11 and 1-4.
Junior Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) led the
Panthers with 16 kills in the win over UMD. Classmate
Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) added 13 kills and
four blocks, and freshman Meghan Sullivan
(Marlton, N.J.) chipped in with 11 kills. Senior libero
Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) made 23 digs and
sophomore Sarah Cady (Holliston, Mass.) recorded
42 set assists.
Badeau was PSU's top hitter in the loss to UMB with 10 kills.
Newton had seven kills and four blocks and Spears recorded 18 digs.
PSU returns home to celebrate Senior Night at Foley Gymnasium on
Tuesday with a non-conference match against Salem State (6:00 p.m.)
The Panthers will wrap up the regular season next weekend at the
Bridgewater State Halloween Classic.
