BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Plymouth
State University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches
Friday night at the Bridgewater State Halloween Classic, rallying
from two sets down to defeat Bridgewater State College after a 3-1
loss to Hunter College.
The Panthers dropped the first two sets against Hunter to start the
evening, 25-21 and 25-17, before getting on the board with a 25-18
win in the third set. Hunter followed with a 25-10 verdict in
set four to clinch the match. PSU fell behind the host team
by two sets in the second match, 25-21 and 26-24, before coming
back to earn an impressive victory with 25-10, 25-23 and 15-11
decisions in the final three sets.
Hunter and Keene State College posted 2-0 records on the evening,
while Plymouth State, Bridgewater State and Framingham State all
went 1-1 and Worcester State and Suffolk finished 0-2. PSU is
now 18-12 on the season, while Hunter is 22-5 and BSC is 9-22.
Junior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) led the
Panthers with 21 kills against Bridgewater State and 16 kills
against Hunter. The 21 kills is her third-highest total in a
match this season, and the most since she had 23 against Rhode
Island College on Sept. 20. She also made seven blocks, four
against Hunter and three vs. BSC.
Freshman Meghan Sullivan (Marlton, N.J.)
contributed 14 kills in the victory over the Bears. Sullivan,
senior Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) and sophomore
Kelsey Petty (Salem, N.H.) all reached double
figures in digs, and sophomore Sarah Cady
(Holliston, Mass.) finished with 40 set assists. Spears also had a
team-high 20 digs against Hunter.
The round-robin tournament continues on Saturday, wrapping up the
regular season for the Panthers. PSU will face Keene State at
12:00 p.m. and Worcester State at 2:00 p.m.
