PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior
Kerry D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.) scored her first
two goals of the season and assisted on another Saturday afternoon
as Plymouth State University defeated Eastern Connecticut State
University, 5-0, in a Little East Conference field hockey game at
Arold Field.
The Panthers out shot the visitors 24-4, and the PSU defense posted
its fifth shutout in the last six games. Plymouth State
improves to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while Eastern
Conn. drops to 2-7 and 1-4. PSU trails Keene State by one-half game
in the LEC standings.
Senior Ashley Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) put the
Panthers on the board less than 13 minutes into the game with her
sixth goal of the season. D'Ambroise and junior Sarah
Smith (Lexington, Mass.) then scored goals 20 seconds
apart with just over 11 minutes left in the first half and PSU had
a 3-0 lead at intermission.
D'Ambroise added her second goal of the game midway through the
second half to make it 4-0, and sophomore Kristina
Conroy (Wakefield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with her
second of the year with less than four minutes remaining.
Freshman Sam Reuss (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made her
first career start in the Panther goal, and made two second-half
saves to post her first shutout. Junior Tia Mucciarone (Franklin,
Mass.) had a busy afternoon in the Eastern goal and finished with
13 saves.
PSU is home again Tuesday for a big game against LEC-leading Keene
State (4:00 p.m.), while Eastern visits Fitchburg State on Tuesday
for a conference match-up (4:00 p.m.)
