Box Score
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Greg Cox
(Brookline, Mass.) scored one goal and assisted on the other
Saturday afternoon as the University of Southern Maine remained
unbeaten in Little East Conference play with a 2-0 victory over
Plymouth State University in men's soccer action at Panther Field.
The victory puts USM in a tie for first place in the LEC with Rhode
Island College, both schools with 3-0 conference records. The
Huskies improve to 8-3-1 overall, while PSU drops to 4-6-0 overall
and 1-2-0 in LEC games. The outcome also gave USM coach Mike
Keller his 100th career victory.
Cox scored his fourth goal of the season with just over four
minutes remaining in the first half, with an assist from classmate
Ben Slagle (Scarborough, Maine). It was still a tight game
until Cox set up junior Peter McHugh (Portland, Maine) for his
team-leading 10th of the season in the final minute of
play.
PSU finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots, but couldn't put one
past junior David Kreps (Agawam, Mass.), who finished with five
saves for his third shutout of the season.
Plymouth State returns to action Tuesday with a non-conference
clash at Tufts University at 7:00 p.m., while the Huskies are back
on the pitch at Bates College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
