LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - The Plymouth
State University women's tennis team got back on the winning track
Tuesday afternoon with a 6-1 non-conference victory over Lyndon
State College.
The Panthers snapped their three-match losing streak and improved
to 3-7 overall, while Lyndon State dropped to 0-6.
Both teams were shorthanded so there were only four singles matches
played. PSU sophomore Buffy Garland
(Freedom, N.H.) moved up to the No. 1 singles spot and earned a
victory when her opponent defaulted in the second set, while
freshman Lydia Smith (Marblehead, Mass.) earned a
victory at No. 2 singles with a win in the third-set
super-breaker. Sophomore Abby Warren
(Durham, N.H.) also picked up a win at No. 4 singles, and freshman
Kelsey McPherson (Durham, Maine) collected a
forfeit victory at No. 5.
In the only doubles match of the day, Warren and McPherson posted
an 8-3 victory. Ashley Dewhurst (North
Conway, N.H.) earned the lone Lyndon State win of the day at No. 3
singles.
PSU plays a Little East Conference make-up match Thursday at UMass
Boston (3:00 p.m. at Boston College High School) and wraps up the
regular season Saturday at Western Connecticut.
