PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior
Brittany O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman
Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.) combined to
make 29 kills Tuesday evening to lead Keene State College to a 3-2
victory over Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference
women's volleyball match at Foley Gymnasium.
The Owls won the first and third games, 25-19 and 25-18, while the
Panthers came back to take the second and fourth games, 25-22 and
25-17. Keene State led the whole way in the decisive fifth
game after jumping out to a 5-0 advantage. PSU pulled to
within two points at 5-3, but the Owls came right back to go ahead
8-3 at the side change. The Panthers scored the next two
points to close to within three points again, but the Owls recorded
six of the next seven points and went on to post a 15-8 victory.
Keene State clinches its second straight LEC regular season
championship as the Owls have at least a two-game lead on the
rest of the conference with one match to play. KSC is now 5-0
in the LEC and 17-6 overall, while the Panthers slipped to 1-3 in
conference matches and 11-6 overall.
Brittany O'Bryant finished with 17 kills and six blocks for the
Owls, while Bridget added 12 kills. Junior setter
Jordan Pokryfki (Wasilla, Alaska) registered 44
set assists, and senior libero Sarah Peterson
(Danville, N.H.) added 27 digs.
Freshman Meghan Sullivan (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee)
led the Panthers with 15 kills, six service aces and 13 digs, while
junior Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.), a
transfer from Keene State, added 11 kills for PSU. Senior
Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) contributed 18 digs,
and junior Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.)
made 44 set assists.
PSU returns to action this Friday and Saturday at the Tom Hay
Invitational at Springfield College, while KSC faces Brandeis and
Coast Guard Saturday in New London, Conn.
