PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Semir Mehmedovic (Concord, N.H.) scored two goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston in the Little East Conference regular season finale at Panther Field.

            The Panthers complete the regular season at 6-8-3 overall and 2-2-3 in conference play, and lock up a spot in next week's LEC Tournament. PSU is the fourth seed in the tournament and will host fifth seeded Western Connecticut State University in a first-round game on Monday at Panther Field. UMB finishes its season at 4-12 overall and 0-7 in the Little East.

            UMB nearly got on the board first, but a shot by senior Romeo Zeqo (Medford, Mass.) just three minutes into the match bounced hard off the cross bar.  Mehmedovic tallied the only goal of the first half for PSU with seven minutes remaining when he was sent in alone down the left side and chipped the ball past a charging Beacon keeper Domenick Persuitte (West Barnstable, Mass.)

            The visitors evened the match 15 minutes into the second half on a corner kick, as PSU senior keeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) deflected the ball but sophomore Alex Cavallero (Lenox, Mass.) headed the rebound into the far corner. It didn't stay tied long, as Mehmedovic was pulled down in the box three minutes later and converted the penalty kick for his second goal of the game and team-leading eighth of the season.

            The Beacons had several chances to tie the game again, but Shute made outstanding saves on freshman Jaime Delgado (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) in the 71st minute and junior Matt Parentele (Holyoke, Mass.) in the 77th minute.  UMB's best chance to tie it came with nine minutes remaining, but a penalty kick by senior Henry Marin (Haverhill, Mass.) sailed high and wide.

            Sophomore Stefan Welch (Tokyo, Japan) added an insurance goal for PSU in the final minute when he knocked in the rebound after freshman Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) hit the right post.

            PSU finished with a 19-8 advantage in shots.  Shute made three saves to earn the win for PSU, while Persuitte finished with six saves at the other end.

            Mehmedovic has moved up on PSU's all-time scoring list, and now ranks eighth with 69 points and tied for fifth with 21 assists.
