BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Plymouth State University
women's volleyball team finished third overall at the Bridgewater
State Halloween Classic, splitting a pair of matches Saturday to
finish the tournament with a 2-2 record.
The Panthers started the day with a grueling 3-2 loss to Keene
State College, dropping the first two sets 25-15 and 25-10,
rallying to win the next two, 25-17 and 25-14, and then falling in
the final set, 15-13. PSU regrouped and defeated Worcester
State College in its final match, 25-12, 25-22, 25-12.
Keene State and Hunter College both finished the tournament with
4-0 records, and Keene was declared tourney champion based on a
point-differential tiebreaker. PSU and Bridgewater State were
both 2-2, but the Panthers took third place based on Friday night's
3-2 win over the Bears. Framingham State and Worcester State each
finished the weekend 1-3, and Suffolk was winless in four tries.
The weekend's events wrap up the regular season, with PSU finishing
with a 19-13 overall record. Keene State is now 27-8, Hunter
is 24-5 and Bridgewater State is 10-23.
Junior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) was named to
the All-Tournament Team for PSU after making 57 kills and 17 blocks
in the four matches. She had a team-high 11 kills and five
blocks in the setback to Keene State Saturday and added nine kills,
five blocks and five services aces in the win over Worcester State.
Senior Wendy Dziedzic (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman
Meghan Sullivan (Marlton, N.J.) both reached
double figures in kills in the KSC match, and senior Sarah
Spears (Meredith, N.H.) recorded a season-high 28 digs.
Junior Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) was the
top hitter against WSC with 11 kills.
PSU will be the fifth seed in next week's Little East Conference
Tournament, and will travel to fourth-seeded Western Connecticut
State University for a Tuesday night match (6:00 p.m.)
