NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Plymouth State
University women's ice hockey team dropped its season opener Friday
evening, suffering a 9-0 setback to Norwich University in an ECAC
Women's East Conference game at Kreitzberg Arena.
Junior Sophie Leclerc (Barre, Vt.) netted a hat trick to lead
Norwich, while freshman Amanda Wilks (Winnipeg, Man.) scored two
goals and freshman Julie Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Que.) registered
five assists. It marked the second straight win for the Cadets, who
improve to 2-3-0 overall (2-1-0 ECAC East).
PSU senior goalie Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston,
Mass./Newton Country Day) picked up from where she left off last
season, when she led the nation in saves. DeLorie made 53
saves as Norwich out-shot Plymouth State 62-12. The Cadets were
1-for-6 on the power play, while the Panthers went 0-for-5 on the
extra skater.
Norwich freshman goaltender Chiara Traversa (Torino, Italy) stopped
all 12 shots that she faced en route to her first career shutout.
PSU plays another conference game in Vermont Saturday afternoon,
visiting Castleton State College for a 2:00 p.m. face-off.
Norwich returns to the ice at Kreitzberg Arena on Saturday against
ECAC East rival Southern Maine.
