WESTFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore center Dennis Zak (Dover,
N.J.) tallied two goals and an assist Saturday evening to lead
Westfield State College to a 5-1 victory over Plymouth State
University in an ECAC Northeast men's ice hockey game.
The Owls - a first-year varsity program - improved to 1-0-1.
Plymouth State is 1-1-0 on the young season.
Zak assisted on Costi Hinn's goal that gave Westfield a 1-0 lead
after the first period. Zak made the score 2-0 when he lifted the
puck over the goalie's right shoulder from 15 feet out at the 9:13
mark. It was 3-0 by the end of the middle period on a goal by
Westfield's Benni Schennach at 18:19.
Westfield took a commanding 4-0 lead midway thru the third period
before Plymouth got on the scoreboard on a goal by junior
Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) at the 13:13 mark.
Zak then scored with less then two minutes remaining in regulation.
Owl freshman goalie Ian Wilson played well between the pipes with
27 saves.
PSU returns home to prepare to the home opener next Saturday, Nov.
22, at Waterville Valley Ice Arena against UMass Dartmouth (6:00
p.m.)
