LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Senior classmate Kali
Stoddard-Imari (Danville, Vt.) scored a game-high 19 points and
senior Brad Durr (Windham, Conn.) added 13 points and a game-high
12 rebounds Thursday evening as Lyndon State College knocked off
Plymouth State University, 59-55, in non-conference men's
basketball action at Stannard Gymnasium.
Junior Jason O'Keefe (Everett, Mass.) scored a
team-high 16 points to lead the Panthers, while classmate
Mike Chergey (Bow, N.H.) added 12 points and
Bryan Tracy (Manchester, N.H./Central) chipped in
with 10. PSU, which shot 30 percent from the field in the
first half and 28 percent in the second half, lost for the third
time in its last four outings to fall to 3-5.
Senior Cesar Martinez (East Harlem, N.Y.) was also a double-figure
scorer for Lyndon State with 13 points, along with six assists and
five steals, as the Hornets stopped a two-game losing skid and
improved to 2-3.
It was a close game throughout the first half, with six lead
changes, neither team leading by more than five points, and the
home team clinging to a three-point margin at the break,
27-24. PSU took a slight lead early in the second half, but
it was tied 39-all at the midway point. After a pair of
Panther free throws, the Hornets held Plymouth State scoreless for
nearly five minutes, scoring 10 unanswered points to take the
largest lead of the night, 49-41, with just over five minutes
remaining.
PSU responded with a 10-2 run to tie the game at 51-51 with two
minutes to play. But this was Lyndon State's night, and
Stoddard-Imari scored six of his 19 points down the stretch,
including four at the free throw line, as the Hornets held on for
the win.
The Panthers return home to host Western Connecticut State
University on Saturday in a Little East Conference encounter at
Foley Gymnasium (3:00 p.m.), while Lyndon State hosts New England
College Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
