CONCORD, N.H. - Junior David Rosso (Wilmington,
Vt.) and freshman Will Bardaglio (Wayne, Maine) combined to score
40 points Tuesday evening as Colby-Sawyer College defeated Plymouth
State University, 87-83, in the second game of the ninth annual
Jacob's Bridge Through Autism Men's Basketball Classic, hosted by
New Hampshire Technical Institute at the Crocker Wellness Center.
The Panthers gave up a good fight, but the Chargers pulled away
late in the second half. After a back-and-forth game for 30
minutes, the game was tied 64-all with nine minutes to play, but
Plymouth State never led again. PSU was within three points (75-72)
with just under four minutes remaining, but the Chargers held off
any Panther rallies. Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-2, while
Plymouth State falls to 2-3.
Rosso finished with a game-high 21 points for the Chargers and
Bardaglio added 19, including three three-points hoops.
Seniors Duncan Szeliga (Newmarket, N.H.) and Matt Lemieux
(Manchester, N.H.) were also factors, as Szekiga hit 6-of-8 shots
and finished with 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds, and
Lemieux made 5-of-6 shots and added seven assists to his 13 points.
The Panthers (2-3) had five players score in double figures. Senior
Ben Huntington (Hampstead, N.H.) ended up with a
team-high 17 points on 4-of-11 shooting and 8-of-9 from the free
throw line. Sophomore Tom Dowd (Portsmouth,
N.H.) added 14 points by making 5-of-7 shots, sophomore
Ryan Lambert (Derry, N.H.) added 12 points, and
juniors Jason O'Keefe (Everett, Mass.) and
Mike Chergey (Bow, N.H.) chipped in with 11
apiece. Huntington and Lambert shared team-high rebounding
honors with six apiece as PSU had a 33-24 advantage on the boards.
Plymouth State is back on the court Thursday with a visit to Tufts
University for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. The Chargers return to action
this weekend with two games at the Norwich tournament beginning on
Saturday with an 8:00 p.m. game against Worcester State.
