WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Senior Amy Provencher
(Manchester, N.H./Brewster Academy) registered a goal and an assist
Saturday afternoon as Salve Regina University defeated Plymouth
State University, 4-1, in ECAC Women's East Conference ice hockey
action at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Seahawks
led 2-0 after one period and 4-0 after two, and finished with a
41-21 advantage in shots on goal. PSU, which is still looking
for its first win of the season, broke the shutout with just under
four minutes remaining in the game.
Provencher
opened the scoring for Salve four minutes into the contest with her
fourth goal of the season, and freshman Kristen Cokely (Cambridge,
Mass.) followed with an unassisted goal two minutes later to give
the visitors a 2-0 lead. It stayed that way until the second
period, when freshman Molly Golden (Milton, Mass.) scored at 2:29
and junior Caitlin Campbell (Hingham, Mass.) added another at 16:22
to make it 4-0. Golden and Campbell share the Salve team goal
scoring lead with 12 apiece.
Sophomore
Alyssa Hovanec (Marlborough, Conn.) tallied her
first goal of the year for PSU at the 16:17 mark of the third
period.
Junior Tamsin
Gosselin (Meriden, Conn.) earned the win in the Salve goal, making
20 saves, while PSU junior goalie Lindsay DeLorie
(Holliston, Mass.) finished with 37 saves.
Salve, 8-12-2
overall and 7-8-1 in the conference, plays a home-and-home series
next weekend against MIT. PSU, 0-18-1 overall and 0-16-1 in
the ECAC East, wraps up its season next weekend in Vermont with
road games at Saint Michael's on Friday and Norwich on Saturday.
