PSU Men's Ice Hockey defeats Worcester State

            AUBURN, Mass. - Sophomore Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.) scored a pair of goals Saturday evening as Plymouth State University defeated Worcester State College, 6-2, in an ECAC Northeast Conference men's ice hockey game at Horgan Arena.

            The Panthers won their second straight game and remained alive for an ECAC Northeast play-off berth, which goes to the top eight teams in the conference.  PSU, 10-11-3 overall and 7-6-2 in the Northeast, moved into a three-way tie for seventh place with Salve Regina University and Suffolk University (pending Saturday night's action).  Worcester State completes its season at 2-22-0 overall and 2-14-0 in conference play.

            Plymouth State can earn a ticket to the conference tournament with a win in the regular season finale next Wednesday, a make-up game at Suffolk (6:25 p.m.) The ECAC Northeast play-offs begin next Saturday, Mar. 1.

            Senior Topo LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) and Chambers scored first-period goals to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Freshman Andrew Stewart (O'Leary, PEI) made it a 3-0 PSU lead midway through the middle period before junior Tom Ford (North Grafton, Mass.) put the Lancers on the board with a power play goal with three minutes left in the second period.

            Freshman Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) scored for Worcester State 2:44 into the third period to make it a one-goal game, but it was all PSU the rest of the way.  Senior Ryan Moreau (Worcester, Mass.) put the Panthers back up by two at the 9:42 mark; senior Deni Bojadzic (Gothenburg, Sweden) made it 5-2 with his team-leading 11th of the season at 13:38, and Chambers rounded out the scoring with his ninth of the year at 15:29.

            Plymouth State finished with a 43-22 advantage in shots on goal.  Freshman goaltender Kevin Crosby (Farmington, Conn.) improved his record to 3-1 with a 20-save performance in the Panther goal, while sophomore Andrew Evans (Cromwell, Conn.) and freshman David Schultz (North Andover, Mass.) combined to make 37 saves in the Lancers' goal.
