HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College women's
ice hockey team registered its second shutout of the season
Saturday afternoon with a 10-0 victory over Plymouth State
University in an ECAC Women's East game. The win is the
second straight for the Pilgrims who improve to 12-7-1 overall and
9-5-1 in the ECAC East. The loss drops the Panthers to 0-16-1
overall and 0-14-1 in ECAC East action.
The Pilgrims started the scoring early as Shauna Pires (Cotuit,
Mass.) netted her seventh goal of the season just 2:36 into the
opening period. NEC tacked on another goal in the first
period as Sarah Graham (Brampton, Ontario) scored her team-leading
17th goal of the season at the 7:32 mark. PSU slowed down the
Pilgrims for the remainder of the first period as NEC would head
into the second stanza up 2-0.
The Pilgrims exploded for six second-period goals, including a
short-handed goal by Danielle O'Leary (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and two
goals from NEC's Sarah Tracey (Aurora, Ontario) giving the Pilgrims
the 8-0 lead heading into the third period. NEC 's
Danielle Taylor (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Emily Tanguay (Manchester,
N.H.) tallied third-period goals to round out the scoring.
Picking up the win in goal for the Pilgrims was Danielle Giancola
(Toronto, Ontario) who finished the afternoon with eight
saves. Senior Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston,
Mass.) finished with 36 saves in two periods of work for PSU, and
freshman Lauren Bonanni (Ridgefield, Conn.) came
on and made 11 stops in the final frame.
Plymouth State returns home to host the final two home games of the
season next weekend at Waterville Valley. PSU will meet MIT
Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Salve Regina on Senior Day Saturday at 2:00
p.m. The Panthers tied with MIT earlier this season, the only
non-loss on the schedule.
The Pilgrims play their next three games on the road, beginning
next Friday and Saturday at UMass Boston and Saint Anselm,
respectively.
