PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State
University swept a pair on matches Friday evening on the first day
of the annual Days Inn of Campton Women's Volleyball
Tournament, defeating Lasell College and Newbury College in
straight sets at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers knocked off Lasell in the first match, 25-11, 25-17,
25-12, and came back with an easy 25-4, 25-10, 25-7 victory over
Newbury in the nightcap. PSU advances to the semifinal round,
and will face an opponent to be determined Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Junior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) led
the Panthers in the win over Lasell, posting 16 kills with just two
attack errors, while classmate Brianna Kleckner
(Terryville, Conn.) finished with 26 set assists. Senior
libero Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H./Inter-Lakes)
led the defense with 10 digs, and senior Regan
Bowlen (Portsmouth, N.H.) recorded a team-high four
service aces.
Freshman Meghan Sullivan (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee)
was the top PSU hitter in the victory over Newbury, registering
seven kills with no attack errors. Badeau recorded five kills
and a team-best seven service aces, and sophomore setter
Sarah Cady (Holliston, Mass.) finished with 14
assists. Spears again led the defense with seven digs.
Tournament play resumes Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with pool play,
followed by the semifinals at 11:00 a.m. The consolation
round is slated for 1:00 p.m., with the championship match set for
3:00 p.m.
