PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Colby-Sawyer
College rallied from two sets down to pull out a 3-2 victory over
Plymouth State University Tuesday evening in a thrilling
non-conference women's volleyball match at Foley Gymnasium.
PSU posted an easy 25-9 win in the first set, and took a 2-0 lead
with a 25-23 victory in set two. CSC came back with a pair of
25-21 wins in the next two sets to force a fifth and decisive
set. The Panthers had an 8-5 lead when the teams switched
sides, but the Chargers came back to tie things up at 11-11. It was
tied again at 13-all and 14-all before Colby-Sawyer won two
straight points to capture the set and match, 16-14.
The Chargers won for the fourth match in a row to improve to 4-5
overall, while Plymouth State dropped to 6-2.
Juniors Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) and
Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) were the top
hitters for the Panthers with 18 and 16 kills, respectively.
Badeau also registered a team-high five service aces and four
blocks. Five Panthers reached double figures in digs - senior
Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) with 24, freshman
Meghan Sullivan (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) with 14,
juniors Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) and
Kathy Frankowski (Farmington, Conn.) with 12 each,
and senior Regan Bowlen (Portsmouth, N.H.) with
11.
Junior Genny Moore (Centerville, Mass.) had 29 assists for the
Chargers, and sophomore Michelle Doody (Franklin, Mass.) had a
team-high 12 kills. Senior Kristen Romanko (Mansfield, Mass.)
contributed four blocks apiece, and senior Taylor Forsburg
(Moultonbotough, N.H.) recorded 17 digs. Romanko also had a
team-high five service aces.
PSU opens Little East Conference play this Saturday with a pair of
home matches at Foley Gymnasium, facing Rhode Island College at
12:00 p.m. and Eastern Connecticut State University at 4:00
p.m. Colby-Sawyer is back in action this Saturday and Sunday
at the Baruch College Tournament in New York City.
