PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman
Laura Donovan (Acton, Mass.) won both her matches
Saturday afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University women's
tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Salem State College in a Little
East Conference match at the P.E. Center Courts.
Donovan teamed up with senior Meghan Rodier
(Francestown, N.H.) for a big win at No. 1 doubles, helping PSU to
a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Donovan then won in straight
sets at No. 2 singles to even her season record at 4-4, one of five
PSU singles winners on the day. Rodier was defeated at No. 1
singles by Salem State junior Megan Cote (Fall River, Mass.), the
defending LEC No. 1 singles champion who improved her record to 3-0
this season and 30-1 in her career.
Other singles winners for PSU included sophomore Buffy
Garland (Freedom, N.H.) at No. 3, junior Amanda
Arponen (Plymouth, Mass.) at No. 4, and freshmen
Lydia Smith (Marblehead, Mass.) and Sandy
Capecelatro (Brewster, N.Y.) at Nos. 5 & 6,
respectively. Smith has the best record on the team with a
6-3 mark.
Sophomores Nikki Kolb (Gilford, N.H.) and
Abby Warren (Durham, N.H.) also picked up a win
for PSU at No. 3 doubles.
PSU, 2-4 overall and 2-2 in LEC matches, is home again on Tuesday
with a non-conference contest against Castleton (3:30 p.m.).
Salem State, 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference, is back on the
courts Thursday at Curry College (3:00 p.m.)
