NASHUA, N.H. - Junior middle hitter Eliza
Badeau (Foster, R.I.) registered 17 kills and five blocks
Monday evening as the Plymouth State University women's volleyball
team came from behind to defeat Rivier College, 3-1, in a
non-conference match at the Muldoon Health & Fitness Center.
The Panthers dropped the opening set, 25-18, but rallied to take
the next three, 26-24, 25-21 and 25-17. PSU improves to 8-3
on the season, while Rivier, defending Great Northeast Athletic
Conference champion, drops to 6-5.
Also contributing to the Panther victory were junior Carly
Newton (Centerville, Mass.), who made 10 kills, senior
Wendy Dziedzic (Nashua, N.H.), who added nine
kills, and freshman Meghan Sullivan (Marlton,
N.J.), who chipped in with eight. Sophomore Kelsey
Petty (Salem, N.H.) recorded a team-high five service
aces, and senior Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.)
finished with 24 digs. Sullivan and junior Kathy
Frankowski (Farmington, Conn.) also reached double figures
in digs, and junior setter Brianna Kleckner
(Terryville, Conn.) recorded 46 assists.
Leading the way for Rivier was Danielle Jacques (Derry, N.H.), who
scored her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10
digs. Senior Colleen Van Cura (E. Lyme, Conn.) scooped up a
Raider-high 21 digs. Setter Laura Ciummo (Burrillville, R.I.)
dished out 30 assists while Nicole Rodriguez (Newton, Mass.) served
a Rivier-high five ace serves. Freshmen Emileigh Cenedella
(Townsend, Mass.) and Lauren Saccoccio (Warwick, R.I.) were solid
in the back row with 13 and 16 digs, respectively.
PSU returns to Little East Conference play this Saturday with a
12:00 p.m. match at Foley Gymnasium against Western
Connecticut. Rivier plays again Thursday evening at Keene
State (7:00 p.m.)
