PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Endicott College
opened its women's tennis season Thursday afternoon with an easy
9-0 non-conference victory over Plymouth State University in PSU's
home opener at the P.E. Center Courts.
The Gulls rolled through the three doubles matches, dropping only
five games in the three eight-game pro-sets, and cruised home with
the sweep by winning all six singles matches, including five in
straight sets.
Freshman Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and sophomore Nicole Breting
(Woonsocket, R.I.) led the way for the Gulls. Cioffi was an
easy winner at No. 1 singles after teaming with junior Alyson Boehm
(Lowell, Mass.) for a victory at No. 2 doubles, and Breting
preceded her victory at No. 2 singles with an 8-0 triumph at No. 1
doubles with junior Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.)
Wardner and Boehm were also singles winners at No. 3 and No. 4,
respectively. Seniors Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.) and Jenna
Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) also were double winners on the
afternoon, taking matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and joining
together for the win at No. 3 doubles.
PSU, 0-1, is home again on Saturday for its Little East Conference
opener against the University of Southern Maine (2:00 p.m.), while
Endicott, 1-0, returns home to host Regis College in the home
opener and the first Commonwealth Coast Conference match (12:00
p.m.)
