WATERVILLE, Maine - The Plymouth
State University women's volleyball team won its season opener
Friday night, defeating Gordon College in its first match at the
Colby College Invitational.
The Panthers rallied from a two-set deficit to pull out the match
in the fifth and decisive set. Gordon won the first two sets,
25-15 and 25-14, before PSU came back to take the next two, 25-20
and 25-11. Plymouth State pulled out the match with a 15-7
victory in set five.
Junior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) led the
Panthers with 22 kills in the match, while senior Wendy
Dziedzic (Nashua, N.H.) added nine kills and junior
Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) chipped in with
eight.
Seniors Regan Bowlen (Portsmouth, N.H.) and
Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H.) led the Panther
defense with 20 and 18 digs, respectively. Junior setter
Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) registered 39
assists and a team-high four service aces.
PSU continues play in the tournament with two more matches
Saturday, facing Colby at 12 noon and Husson College at 4:00
p.m.
