PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth
State University women's tennis team proved too strong for the
University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon, defeating the
Huskies 9-0 in the Little East Conference women's tennis opener at
the P.E. Center Courts.
Senior Meghan Rodier (Francestown, N.H./ConVal),
freshman Laura Donovan (Acton, Mass.), sophomore
Buffy Garland (Freedom, N.H./Kennett) and junior
Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South)
were all double winners for PSU. The Panthers also picked up
two victories by forfeit, as Southern Maine had only five players.
Rodier and Donovan collected singles wins for PSU at No. 1 and No.
2, respectively, and teamed up for a victory at No. 1
doubles. Garland and Arponen registered singles wins at No. 3
and No. 4, respectively, and paired up for a triumph at No. 2
doubles. Freshman Lydia
Smith (Marblehead, Mass.) also posted a win at No.
5 singles.
PSU, 1-1 overall, wraps up a three-match home stand on Wednesday
with a 4:30 match-up against Saint Michael's College.
Southern Maine, 0-1, is back in action Wednesday with a
non-conference match at Pine Manor College.
