NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.
- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's
basketball team outscored visiting Plymouth State University 30-14
in the first 10 minutes of the second half, opening up a 32- point
lead and went on to defeat the Panthers, 94-61, in a Little East
Conference game at the Tripp Athletic Center.
The Corsairs posted their ninth win in a row, improving to 13-1
overall and 5-0 in the Little East and remaining the only unbeaten
team in conference play. PSU owns fourth place in the LEC
after falling to 3-2 in league play and 6-9 overall.
Junior Brandon Shelton (Cambridge, Mass.) and sophomore Brandon
Stephens (Dorchester, Mass.) led the way for the home team with 21
and 20 points, respectively, two of the five Corairs to score in
double figures. Junior Jeff Macchi (Franklin, Mass.) added 15
points, junior Tyler Turtoro (Shelton, Conn.) contributed 14, and
junior Matt Walker (Brockton, Mass.) finished with 10.
Junior Jason O'Keefe (Everett, Mass.) was the only
Panther to reach double figures in scoring, finishing with 11
points.
Plymouth State got off to a good start, scoring the first six
points of the game and leading for the first eight minutes of the
game. UMD took the lead for good midway through the opening frame
and went on to hold a 12-point margin at the half, 40-28.
The Corsair advantage reached 20 points six minutes into the second
half, and PSU never challenged the rest of the way. Reserves from
both teams saw the bulk of the playing time in the final 10
minutes.
Both teams are back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday with LEC home
games, the Corsairs hosting Rhode Island College and the Panthers
entertaining rival Keene State Tuesday.
