WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Sophomore Amy Costa (Bristol,
R.I.) scored two goals Saturday afternoon as Castleton State
College skated past Plymouth State University, 5-2, in an ECAC
Women's East Conference ice hockey game at Waterville Valley Ice
Arena.
Senior Katelyn
Greene (Westborough, Mass.) added a goal and an assist for the
Spartans, who improved to 3-12-0 overall and 3-8-0 in the
conference. Freshman Denise Cardello (North Babylon, N.Y.)
and junior Maryanne Diehm (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) each added a goal
for the winners.
Greene and
Cardello staked Castleton to a 2-0 lead with first-period goals.
Sophomore Elizabeth Murray (Woburn, Mass.) started
PSU off quickly in the second period by scoring a goal from the
blue line 32 seconds into the period from a pass delivered by
senior Amanda Kreamer (Lynn, Mass.). Costa
scored two more goals in the second period for Castleton to make it
a 4-1 game.
Junior
Amanda Arponen (Plymouth, Mass.) scored for the
Panthers in the third period, assisted by freshman Jamie
Camara (Portsmouth R.I), but PSU came up short.
Sophomore
goalie Amanda Hoy (Brockport, N.Y.) made six saves in the Spartan
net to record her first win of the season. Senior
Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston,
Mass.) made 38 saves in a losing effort for the Panthers.
Plymouth State
will travel Cambridge, Mass., next Friday to take on MIT at 7
p.m. Castleton returns home to face New England College the
same day and time.
