BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Plymouth State University captured
nine of the 16 events Saturday afternoon to defeat Bridgewater
State College, 155-134, in a collegiate women's swimming and diving
meet at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.
Freshman Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H.) paced
the Panthers with three victories. She won two individual events in
the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.87) and 100 freestyle (:58.76), and
also swam a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay team
(3:58.54). Classmate Brittanie Bradley
(Scarborough, Maine) also won two individual events for PSU, taking
the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke in 1:14.62 and a season-best
2:43.57, respectively.
Other Plymouth State swimmers to win individual events were junior
Tracey Posnick (Sharon, Mass.) in the 1000
freestyle (11:56.77), freshman Brittney Gondek
(South Glastonbury, Conn.) in the 50 free (27.41 seconds), and
senior Amanda Branch (Gray, Maine) in the 100
butterfly (1:06.58).
Freshman Devin Silverthorne-Lillie (Newport, N.H.)
captured the 3-meter diving event with a season-best 180.35
points. Classmate Nora Regan (West Hartford,
Conn.) took second in the 1-meter diving with a personal-best score
of 179.00 points, which qualified her for the New England
Championships.
Junior Bryn Morwick (Indianapolis, Ind.) and
senior Erica Robinson (Lynn, Mass.) led the way
for the Bears. Morwick posted three individual wins in the
200 butterfly (2:26.31), 500 freestyle (5:44.83) and the 200
individual medley (2:27.57). Robinson notched a pair of wins
taking first place in both the 100 backstroke (1:06.93) and 200
backstroke (2:24.46) events.
Morwick and Robinson also teamed up with senior Katrina
Scholtz (Amesbury, Mass.) and freshman Jennifer
Jason (Montague, Mass.) to capture first place in the 200
medley relay (2:02.07).
Sophomore diver Renee Marcos (Lakeville, Mass.)
placed first on the one-meter board with a score of 184.50 points.
Both teams resume competition next Wednesday, the Bears (4-3)
traveling to Keene State for a 6 p.m. meet and the Panthers (2-4)
visiting Western Connecticut for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
