WORCESTER, Mass. - Assumption College scored a pair of
power play goals in the last two minutes of regulation Saturday
evening to pull out a 2-2 overtime time against Plymouth State
University in an ECAC Northeast Conference men's ice hockey game at
Buffone Rink.
The Panthers
appeared headed for victory, holding a 2-0 lead late in the third
period. But Assumption broke up the shutout at the 18:21 mark
and notched the equalizer at 19:02, both coming with the
man-advantage. The IceDogs pulled out the tie to move their
record to 3-10-4 overall and 2-5-3 in the ECAC Northeast, while PSU
is unbeaten in its last six games (4-0-2) and is now 7-8-2 and
3-4-2.
Freshman
Chris Zaremba (Colorado Springs, Colo.) put the
Panthers on the board at 16:55 of the first period with his eighth
goal of the season and seventh in the last five games. It
stayed 1-0 until sophomore Sean Buckley (Sagamore,
Mass.) lit the lamp at 5:33 of the third, giving the Panthers the
two-goal advantage.
The IceDogs
mounted the comeback, thanks to power play goals by freshman Taylor
Larsen (Blackstone, Mass.) and sophomore Matt Scioli (North
Reading, Mass.).
Freshman goalie
Allen Schneider (Strongsville, Ohio) had a busy
night in the Panther net and finished with 49 saves. Freshman
Nick Blanchette (Stuart, Fla.) was solid in the Assumption goal,
making 44 saves. The home team finished with a 51-46 advantage in
shots on goal.
PSU puts its
six-game unbeaten streak on the line Thursday with a conference
game at Framingham State (7:20 p.m.) Assumption is home again
next Saturday against Franklin Pierce at 7:30 p.m.
