PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Kyle
Jackson (Acton, Mass.) and junior Mark Phillips (Ashland, Mass.)
scored 14 points apiece Tuesday afternoon to lead Bowdoin College
to a 69-54 victory over Plymouth State University in non-conference
men's basketball action at Foley Gymnasium.
Jackson added a team-high nine rebounds and five assists to his
performance for Bowdoin. Senior Darian Reid-Sturgis (Boston,
Mass.) added 13 points, classmate Tim Lane (Townsend, Mass.)
chipped in with 10, and junior Mike Hauser (East Williston, N.Y.)
contributed eight points and nine assists for the Polar Bears, who
stopped a two-game losing streak and improved to 8-3 overall.
Junior Jason O'Keefe (Everett, Mass.) was the only
Panther to reach double figures in scoring, as he finished with a
game-high 22 points. PSU was playing its first game back from
the winter break and dropped to 4-7 overall.
Plymouth State came out strong and maintained a slight lead for the
first four minutes of the game. Bowdoin responded with a 20-4
run over the next 10 minutes to assume a 15-point advantage with
six minutes to play in the half. The Polar Bears then scored six of
the last eight points of the half to enjoy a 39-22 margin at the
break.
The Panthers pulled to within 11 points twice early in the second
half, but Bowdoin went on a 13-3 burst to go up by 21 points and
put the game away.
Bowdoin shot 55 percent from the field and won the rebounding
battle by a 37-32 count. PSU shot just 30 percent from the
field against a tough Polar Bear defense.
PSU plays another non-conference encounter at home on Thursday,
hosting the University of Maine Farmington at 6:00 p.m., following
the women's game at 4:00 p.m. Bowdoin returns home to host
Thomas College Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
