MANSFIELD, Conn. - Senior Kerry
D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Courtney
McLaughlin (Bellingham, Mass.) scored two goals apiece
Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State University rolled past Eastern
Connecticut State University, 6-0, in Little East Conference field
hockey action at the rainy ECSU Athletic Complex.
The Panthers led 2-0 at the half and poured it on in the second
half, improving their all-time record against the Warriors to
14-0. PSU is now 7-3 overall this season and 3-2 in
conference play, while Eastern Conn. falls to 1-8 overall and 0-5
in the LEC.
Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Sawyer (Kingston,
N.H./Sanborn Regional) made three saves for the Panthers to post
the shutout in her first collegiate start. PSU finished with
an 18-3 advantage in shots and a 10-2 margin in penalty corners.
D'Ambroise opened the scoring midway through the first half,
finishing off a cross from senior Morgan Lemmon
(Gilford, N.H.) McLaughlin tallied her first goal of the
season with 3:36 to play in the half to give the Panthers a
two-goal lead at the break.
Junior Kristina Conroy (Wakefield, Mass.) set up
the next two goals for PSU. McLaughlin added her second of
the game five minutes into the second half on a re-direct from
Conroy, and Lemmon made it 4-0 with a goal off a penalty corner,
with Conroy assisting.
Senior Sarah Smith (Lexington, Mass.) made it 5-0
for PSU on a rebound with 12 minutes to play, and D'Ambroise
rounded out the scoring with her second of the game with eight
minutes remaining. D'Ambroise leads the Panthers in scoring
with eight goals, while Conroy is next with five goals and five
assists and Smith is right behind with five goals and four assists.
Both teams play conference games again on Tuesday, Eastern Conn.
hosting Fitchburg State at 4:00 p.m. and Plymouth State visiting
rival Keene State for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
