PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Plymouth State University won 15
of the 16 events Sunday afternoon and defeated Colby-Sawyer
College, 131-105, in a women's swimming and diving meet at the PSU
Natatorium.
Sophomore Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, N.H./Vermont
Academy) led the Panthers, winning three individual races and
swimming a leg on PSU's winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. She
took first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.77, the 100-yard
butterfly in 1:07.39, and the 100-yard freestyle in 58.72 seconds.
Four other Panthers captured two individual events each.
Sophomore Lara Gruner (Center Barnstead,
N.H./Prospect Mountain) was the winner of the 500-yard freestyle
(career-best 5:51.51) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:05.41);
sophomore Brittanie Bradley (Scarborough, Maine)
finished first in the 50-yard breaststroke (34.72) and 100-yard
breaststroke (1:15.43); senior Caitlin Little
(Scituate, Mass.) was the fastest in the 50-yard freestyle (26.50)
and the 50-yard butterfly (29.28); and sophomore Nora
Regan (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) went
uncontested in winning the two diving events, scoring 163.30 on
one-meter and 158.95 on the three-meter board.
A pair of Panther freshmen were also individual event winners, as
Amy Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.) took the 100-yard
backstroke in 1:08.79 and Jennifer Samaro (Salem,
N.H./Central Catholic) won the 200-yard individual medley in
2:27.27.
PSU also captured both relay races, with senior Elise
Innis (Harpswell, Maine/Mt. Ararat), Bradley, Little and
sophomore Brittney Gondek (South Glastonbury,
Conn.) teaming up for a win in the 200 medley relay, and Innis,
Brodeur, Little and Gondek combining for the victory in the
400-yard free relay.
Colby-Sawyer's top performer was senior Danielle
Bowen (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell), who won the 50-yard
backstroke in 31.12 seconds, placed second in the 100 breaststroke
and third in the 200 IM.
Plymouth State is back in the pool on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the
Little East Conference Championships at UMass Dartmouth.
Colby-Sawyer will compete in The Commonwealth Coast Conference
Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 4-5, at Roger Williams.
