PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University
men's basketball team jumped out to a double-digit lead in the
first five minutes of the game and never looked back Thursday
evening, running away to a 74-60 triumph over Lyndon State College
in non-conference men's basketball action at Foley Gymnasium.
Seniors Eric Hondal (Miami, Fla.) and
Bryan Tracy (Manchester, N.H./Central) combined to
hit three three-pointers as PSU rattled off 11 straight points
early on to take a 13-2 advantage. The Panthers had the lead
up over 20 points (30-9) with 6:36 on the first-half clock before
winding up the half with a 42-21 margin.
PSU maintained the 20-point margin most of the second half.
Lyndon State got the deficit down to 13 points late in the game
before the clock ran out with the home team up by 14.
Hondal and Tracy each made three treys in the game and finished
with 12 points apiece. Classmate Bill
Stowell (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) also scored 12 points for
the Panthers, making every shot he took (four from the floor and
four from the free throw line), while senior Mike
Chergey (Bow, N.H.) and junior Tom Dowd
(Portsmouth, N.H.) scored 10 points each.
Lyndon State also had a balanced scoring attack, as sophomore Jose
Fortunato (Boston, Mass./Melrose) and freshman Avery King
(Pawtucket, R.I.) finished with 12 points apiece, junior Mike
Norcross (Woodsville, N.H.) added 11, and freshman Jason Gray (East
Thetford, Vt.) chipped in with 10.
Plymouth State's final game of the semester is set for this
Saturday against Eastern Connecticut State University in a key
Little East Conference match-up at Foley Gymnasium (3:00
p.m.). Lyndon State returns home to host New England College
Saturday in a non-conference clash at Stannard Gymnasium (2:00
p.m.)
