MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Juniors Kendra Andrie (Muskegon, Mich.)
and Kristen Cokely (Cambridge, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Zitzer
(River Forest, Ill.), each scored power-play goals Friday night to
lead the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team to a 3-0
win over Plymouth State University in Eastern Collegiate Athletic
Conference (ECAC) women's ice hockey action at St. George's Rink.
Freshman Ali
Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) recorded 15 saves record her
second-collegiate shutout and improve to 4-0-0 as the
Seahawks(6-2-1, 5-1-1 ECAC) ran their unbeaten streak to five games
(4-0-1). Sophomore Nicole Provencher (Guilford,
Conn.) made 50 saves for the Panthers (0-8-0, 0-8-0 ECAC).
Andrie's first
goal of the season at 11:51 of the opening stanza staked the
Seahawks to a 1-0 lead. Freshman Melanie Sherlock (Colorado
Springs, Colo.) picked up the lone assist on the goal. Cokely
collected a rebound off a shot from sophomore Jen Thiesing
(Sandwich, Mass.) and deposited her first of the season at 11:48 of
the second to push the SRU lead to 2-0, and Zitzer's first
collegiate goal 5:12 into the third was a backhand shot from in
tight. Classmate Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Drew
Chernisky (Valley View, Ohio) were credited with assists on the
Seahawks third goal.
The Seahawks
return to action Saturday night when they host Southern Maine at 8
p.m. The Panthers are off until January 2, when they compete in the
Saint Michael's Holiday Classic in Colchester, Vt.
