WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Junior Maria Nasta (Andover,
Mass.) and sophomores Lauren Duran (Woburn, Mass.) and Jazz Webber
(Winslow, Maine) scored two goals each Friday evening as the
University of Massachusetts Boston skated past Plymouth State
University, 8-0, in an ECAC Women's East Conference ice hockey game
at Waterville Valley Arena.
Nasta recorded
five points on two goals and three assists, while Duran tallied two
goals and two assists. They helped the Beacons win their
third straight game and improve to 11-8-2 overall and 10-5-2 in the
ECAC East. PSU remains winless through 19 contests.
Senior goalie
Jessica Sams (Bellingham, Mass.) made 11 saves for UMB to record
the shutout in her first appearance of the season. PSU senior
Lindsay DeLorie (Holliston, Mass.) made 54 saves,
her sixth 50-plus save effort of the season.
Nasta opened
the scoring for UMB with a short-handed goal early in the first
period. Sophomore Kristen Smith (Beavercreek, Ohio) and Duran
followed to make it a 3-0 game after one frame. Duran made it 4-0
at 12:55 of the second and sophomore Hannah Davis (Oakdale, Minn)
added a power play goal in the last minute of the period to put UMB
up 5-0.
The Beacons
rounded out the scoring in the third period with two goals by
Webber and one by Nasta.
PSU plays its
final home game of the season on Saturday, hosting Nichols College
on Senior Day at Waterville Valley (2:00 p.m.) UMB continues
its weekend road trip Saturday with a visit to the University of
Southern Maine for a 2:00 p.m. face-off.
