WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Freshman goalie Allen
Schneider (Strongsville, Ohio) stopped 45 shots to record
his first career shutout Saturday evening, lifting Plymouth State
University to a 2-0 victory over Worcester State College in ECAC
Northeast Conference men's ice hockey action at Waterville Valley
Arena.
Schneider was
the difference, making 22 saves in the third period when the
Lancers out-shot the home team, 22-4. He withstood five WSC
power play opportunities in the third period and 10 for the
game. Schneider improved his record to 9-8-2 with his sixth
40-plus save effort of the season, lowering his goals against
average to 3.30 and upping his saves percentage to .916.
PSU stopped a
two-game slide and moved to 10-12-2 overall and 6-8-2 in conference
play, while Worcester State is now 6-14-3 and 4-9-3.
The Panthers
got all the offense they needed with a pair of first-period
goals. Sophomore Sean Buckley (Sagamore,
Mass.) netted the eventual game-winner at the 9:20 mark with his
10th of the season, and sophomore Seth
McQuade (Manchester, N.H.) added an insurance marker at
14:24, his third of the year.
That ended up
as all the scoring, as the Lancers couldn't get one past
Schneider. WSC had 32 shots and eight power play
opportunities over the final two periods, but came up empty each
time.
Junior Brian
Robinson (Groveland, Mass.) was the tough-luck loser in the
Worcester State goal despite allowing just two goals and making 25
saves.
Both teams wrap
up the regular season next week with make-up games. PSU
travels to Franklin Pierce on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. contest, while
WSC resumes a suspended game against Johnson & Wales on
Tuesday.
