PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The University of Massachusetts
Dartmouth broke a 1-1 tie in the second half Wednesday afternoon to
claim its first Little East Conference field hockey victory of the
season, 2-1, over Plymouth State University at Arold Field.
The Panthers suffer their first loss of the season falling to 4-1
overall and 1-1 in the LEC. The Corsairs improve to 3-3
overall and 1-1 in the LEC. Both teams finished the LEC
regular season tied for second last year.
UMD carried much of the play in the first 20 minutes, but the
Panthers got on the board first. Junior Kristina
Conroy (Wakefield, Mass.) picked up a loose ball in front
of the Corsairs' net off a deflection and scored her third goal of
the season. UMD evened the score a minute and 30 seconds
later when junior Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, Mass.) fired a goal
from the right side over the PSU goalie's right shoulder.
The Corsairs kept the ball on the Panthers' side of the field and
continued to fire off shots in the second half. Junior Jacke
Anderson (Medway, Mass.) scored the eventual game-winning goal five
minutes into the second half on a scramble in front of the Panther
goal.
PSU looked like they had a chance to tie the game in the final
seconds, but the clock expired before the Panthers could muster a
shot.
Sophomore Elyse Sedgley (Hopkinton, N.H.) made a
season high seven saves in the Panther net. Senior captain
Seana Golden (Somerset, Mass) had two saves for UMass
Dartmouth.
