PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University
women's volleyball team continued its undefeated season Tuesday
evening with a three-set victory over Rivier College in
non-conference action at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers won by scores of 25-16, 26-24, and 28-26. The
highlight for the home team was coming back from a 24-18 deficit in
the middle set with eight unanswered points. Rivier staged a
rally in the third set, coming back from down 20-10 to tie it at
24-24, but PSU pulled out the final set and the match.
PSU extends its perfect record to 12-0 on the season, making it the
second-best start to a season in the program's 14-year
history. The 1996 Panthers began their inaugural season
20-0. Rivier gave a strong battle but drops to 4-8.
Senior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) continued her
strong play for the Panthers; the current Little East Conference
Offensive Player of the Week smashed 19 kills and three blocks to
lead the way. Classmate Megan Elliott (West
Haven, Conn.) chipped in with seven kills. Senior setter
Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) contributed
32 set assists, and classmate Kathy Frankowski
(Farmington, Conn.) recorded a team-high 13 digs.
Freshman Kenna Finlayson (Derry, N.H.) led the Raiders with nine
kills, while senior Lindsay Chace (East Providence, R.I.) added six
kills and two blocks. Sophomore setter Lauren Saccoccio
(Warwick, R.I.) registered 16 assists and sophomore Danielle
Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) led the defense with 21 digs.
PSU returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a
round-robin at Foley Gym with Western Connecticut State University
and the University of Southern Maine. Rivier returns home to
host Keene State on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
