PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Amanda Naimie (York,
Maine) scored the game-winning goal on a penalty corner midway
through the second half Thursday afternoon to lift New England
College over Plymouth State University, 2-1, in non-conference
field hockey action at Arold Field.
The Panthers drop their second straight game at home and fall to
5-2 overall. The Pilgrims captured their third straight
victory and improve to 5-2 on the season.
NEC got on the board less than four minutes into the game when
junior Samantha Escobar (Rumney, N.H.) received a pass at the left
post and dribbled around a Panther defender to score.
Plymouth State answered back 10 minutes later when senior
Morgan Lemmon (Gilford, N.H) passed the ball into
the box where classmate Kerry D'Ambroise (Lowell,
Mass.) finished the play for her team-leading fifth goal of the
season.
The 1-1 tie continued into the second half when Naimie netted the
game-winning goal for the Pilgrims from a penalty corner pass from
senior Khatianna Evans (Wayne, Maine). The Panthers turned up
the pressure the last 10 minutes of the game, firing off six shots,
but junior goalie Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) kept the Panthers off
the board. PSU outshot NEC in the game. 21-11.
Roux was outstanding in the Pilgrim goal, making a season-high 15
saves. Sophomore Elyse Sedgley (Hopkinton,
N.H.) made seven saves for PSU.
Plymouth State will host Little East Conference opponent Western
Connecticut Saturday at 12:00 p.m. New England College will
continue its four-game road trip at Colby on Sunday at 2:00
p.m.
