PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Eliza
Badeau (Foster, R.I.) recorded 29 kills in two matches
Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State University won a pair of
matches at a Little East Conference women's volleyball round robin
at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers defeated Western Connecticut State University in three
sets in the first match of the day, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20.
WestConn came back to sweep the University of Southern Maine in
three sets in the middle match, 25-14, 25-14, 25-14, and Plymouth
State rounded out the day with an easy 25-8, 25-14, 25-18 victory
over Southern Maine in the final match.
PSU keeps its perfect season intact, improving to 14-0 overall and
4-0 in LEC matches. WestConn is now 11-4 overall and 3-1 in
Little East matches, while USM drops to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in
conference play. The undefeated start for PSU is the second longest
string to start the season in school history, and is six victories
shy of the program record set in 1996.
Badeau posted 13 kills with just one error in 20 attempts to lead
the Panthers past WestConn. Sophomore Meghan
Sullivan (Marlton, N.J.) chipped in with 11 kills and
senior Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) added
nine. Senior setter Brianna Kleckner
(Terryville, Conn.) finished with 37 assists, and the trio of
Sullivan, junior Kelsey Petty (Salem, N.H.) and
sophomore Alex Avery (Milton, N.H.) made 11 digs
apiece.
Badeau, a three-time All-LEC selection, continued her strong play
with 16 kills and three blocks in the win over USM. Freshman
Nicole Shepard (Nashua, N.H.) came off the bench
to add eight kills. Kleckner was good for 32 assists and 10 digs,
and Avery topped the team with 13 digs.
Senior Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H.) led Southern Maine with
six kills against both WestConn and Plymouth State. Sophomore
setter Laurie Boulay (Biddeford, Maine) finished with 22 assists in
the two matches, and senior Danielle Netland (Cumberland, Maine)
led the Husky defense with 10 digs and three blocks on the day.
PSU puts its perfect record on the line next weekend (Oct. 2-3) at
the Johnson & Wales Fall Classic in Providence, R.I.
WestConn plays again Wednesday at Wesleyan University (7:00 p.m.),
and Southern Maine is back on the court next Saturday at the Salem
State Tournament.
