BOSTON, Mass. - Plymouth State University,
Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham and Emerson College all
posted 2-0 records in day one of competition at the 2009
Emerson/Wentworth Women's Volleyball Invitational, which is being
played on the campuses of Wentworth Institute of Technology and
Emerson College.
PSU recorded a pair of 3-0 verdicts in its two matches, defeating
Framingham State College in its first match (25-8, 25-13, 25-16),
and following with a sweep over Salve Regina University, (25-16,
25-16, 25-13). Salve also took a 3-1 victory from Framingham
State. The schools all play two more pool-play matches in the
tournament on Saturday, with Plymouth State facing Ramapo at 10:00
a.m. and Simmons at 2:00 p.m.
Senior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) led the
Panthers in the win over Framingham State with a 10-kill, two-ace,
three-block performance. Senior Brianna Kleckner
(Terryville, Conn.) dished out 30 assists, while classmate
Kathy Frankowski (Farmington, Conn.) served up
eight aces. Framingham State was led by juniors Jessi Goode
(Marstons Mills, Mass.) and Ashley Trudeau (Rockland, Mass.), who
had 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Panthers remained unblemished on the day in the win over Salve
Regina. Badeau had 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .722,
while Kleckner posted her second consecutive 30-assist match and
junior Kelsey Petty (Salem, N.H.) had 14 digs for
Plymouth State. Salve Regina (1-1) received six kills apiece
from seniors Natalie Rubenoff (New Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore
Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.).
In the other matches, FDU-Florham opened the tournament with a 3-1
win over tournament co-host Wentworth and then posted a 3-0 win
over Simmons College. Simmons took home its first
victory of the day with a 3-1 win over Wentworth. Co-host
Emerson opened play with a 3-2 win over Ramapo, and collected a 3-0
win over Hamilton College. Ramapo also defeated Hamilton,
15-6 in the fifth game.
