BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Freshman Jennifer
Samaro (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) won three individual
events Saturday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to a
141-117 victory over Bridgewater State College in a women's
collegiate swimming and diving meet.
The Panthers captured 11 of the 16 events in the meet, three by
Samaro and two each by sophomores Nicole Brodeur
(Claremont, N.H./Vermont Academy) and Nora Regan
(West Hartford, Conn.) PSU improves to 4-1 in dual meets this
season, while BSC, competing for the first time since December
12th, fell to 3-6 in dual meets.
Samaro placed first in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke
events (1:18.89 and 2:48.90, respectively) and took top honors in
the 200-yard individual medley (2:29.06). Brodeur touched the
wall first in the 100-yard freestyle in 59.66 seconds and the
500-yard free in 5:49.91, and Regan swept the diving events,
scoring 174.50 on the one-meter board and a career-best 189.75 on
three-meter.
Three other Panthers were individual winners. Sophomore
Lara Gruner (Center Barnstead, N.H./Prospect
Mountain) took the 1000-yard free (12:22.71), senior
Caitlin Little (Scituate, Mass.) captured the 50
free (26.38 seconds) and senior Chaz Sweeney
(Methuen, Mass.) won the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time
of 1:09.40.
Freshman Loren Phinney (Holbrook, Mass.) was a double winner to
lead the Bears, taking the 200-yard free (2:01.20) and the 200-yard
back (2:21.24). Junior Mary Burns (Billerica, Mass.) was the
winner of the 200 fly for BSC, and freshman Bridget Hasson (Milton,
Mass.) finished first in the 100 fly (1:07.30).
PSU is slated to host Western Connecticut State University
Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., while BSC visits Westfield State next
Saturday at 1:00
p.m.
