LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College women's hockey
team scored three goals in the opening 13:29 of action Tuesday
evening on its way to a 7-0 victory over Plymouth State University
in non-conference action at Dayton Arena.
Junior
Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) erupted with a hat-trick for the Camels,
who extended their unbeaten streak to three games with the victory,
improving to 4-10-2 overall. Celia Medeiros (Portsmouth,
R.I.) tallied two scores for the home team, while Rachel Lindmark
(Andover, Mass.) and Jill Doliff (Excelsior, Minn.) each
contributed with three assists.
Plymouth State
sophomore net-minder Nicole Provencher (Guilford,
Conn.) earned the third star of the game with a courageous effort
between the pipes. Provencher stopped a career-high 68 of 75 Camel
shots with 57 of those saves occurring in the final two periods of
action.
Provencher did
everything she could to keep the Panthers in contention, stopping
all 27 Connecticut College shots in the second period. With 14:41
to play, Andrea McRae (Stittsville, Ontario) walked in for a shot
from point blank range but Provencher was able to make diving stab.
Midway through the frame, the Panthers had a great chance to get on
the board. Molly Blaine (Concord, N.H.) stole a
pass in the neutral zone and went in alone with a high rising
blast, but Amy Leichliter (Westchester, Pa.) was able to get
a piece of it for the save. Leichliter made six saves for the
Camels, earning the shutout in just the second start of her
collegiate career.
PSU returns
home to host Nichols College Friday at 6:00 p.m. and UMass Boston
on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in an ECAC East Conference weekend
twinbill at Waterville Valley. Nichols was the victim of
Plymouth State's last victory last February.
