Box Score Owens scores lone Panther goal
CASTLETON, Vt. – Sophomore Trevor Kotrady
(No. Clarendon, Vt.) drilled home the game-winning goal in the
107th minute Wednesday afternoon to give Castleton State College a
2-1 double-overtime win over Plymouth State University in a
non-conference men's soccer match at Spartan Stadium on
Senior Night.
Kotrady tallied his seventh goal of the season by blasting home a
loose ball from the left flank to improve the Spartans to 12-5
overall on the season. The Panthers had a two-game winning streak
stopped and drop to 5-8-1.
Plymouth State took a 1-0 advantage at 23:15 of the first half as
senior Eric Owens (Newton, N.H.) received a
through pass from teammate Moses Igah (Abuja,
Nigeria) and ripped a shot into the lower left corner of the
net. Castleton responded at 36:45 as Nick Johnas (Niskayuna,
N.Y.) placed an
indirect kick from about 60-yards out directly into the center of
the box where Costa booted it behind Panthers' goaltender
Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) to even the score
at 1-1.
Both teams had plenty of opportunities over the final 50 minutes of
regulation, but could not score despite registering seven shots
each in the second half. The Spartans outshot the Panthers,
25-21, in the contest.
Senior Andy LaCroix (Jamaica, Vt.) made two stops in the Spartans
net while Ohlsson turned away an impressive 10 shots for Plymouth
State.
PSU returns home to host UMass Boston in a Little East Conference
match this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The Panthers will also be
home on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Babson. The Spartans
travel to St. Joseph's (Vt.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the
regular season finale.
