Box Score Cabral scores lone Panther goal
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Stefanos
Galouzis (Watertown, Mass.) scored two goals Saturday
afternoon to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston to a 3-1
victory over Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference
men's soccer match at Panther Field.
The score was tied 1-1 from the 16th minute of the game until the
79th minute, when the visitors scored twice in a four-minute span
to clinch the victory. UMB improves to 5-10 overall and 2-4
in the LEC, while PSU drops to 5-9-1 overall and 1-5 in conference
play.
Galouzis put the Beacons on the board in the 12th minute when he
took a through pass from sophomore Victor Costa (Malden, Mass.) and
shot the ball into the lower right corner of the net. It took
PSU less than four minutes to even the score, as junior Dre
Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) notched his third goal of the season
on a corner kick. Senior Tommy Schrey
(Munich, Germany) sent the corner kick into the box, where freshman
Justin Hepburn (Williamstown, Vt.) made a
touch-pass to Cabral, who finished off the play to deadlock the
score.
The score remained tied until the 79th minute, when sophomore Reyn
Johnson (Mangilao, Guam) snuck through the Panther defense on a
breakaway and beat the goalkeeper low to the right side for the
eventual game-winner. Goulanis sealed the win at 82:20 when
he knocked in his second goal of the game and 10th of the season on
a rebound.
PSU finished with a 21-16 advantage in shots. UMB sophomore
Brycen Dowd (Mansfield, Mass.) earned the victory
with a seven-save effort, while PSU sophomore Bjorn
Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) made six saves.
Plymouth State will be right back in action on Sunday, hosting
Babson College at 1:00 p.m. in a non-conference encounter on Senior
Day at Panther Field. UMB plays again Wednesday at
Massachusetts Maritime (7:00 pm.)
