Stoodley sends Panthers into LEC Tourney on high

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore outside hitter
Casey Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) led Plymouth State
University with a match-high 12 kills Saturday afternoon as the
Panthers defeated Rhode Island College, 3-0, in the Little East
Conference women¹s volleyball regular season finale for both
schools at The Murray Center.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season with a 17-12 overall record
and a 5-2 mark in the LEC. PSU will be the No. 3 seed in the
upcoming Little East Tournament and will host the sixth-seeded
Anchorwomen (13-17, 2-5 LEC) in first round action on Tuesday at
Foley Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
Plymouth State dominated the match, which took just over an hour to
complete. After a close first set win (25-20), the visitors never
looked back with decisive (25-8, 25-10) victories in the final two
frames.
Freshman middle hitter Kaitlyn Tedeschi (Pascoag,
RI) and classmate outside hitter Shannen Vaughn
(Farmington, N.H.) were accurate hitters on the day. Tedeschi hit
.636 (8-1-11) with eight winners and three blocks. Vaughn hit .545
(6-0-11) with six kills. Junior middle hitter Elissa
Morin (Nashua, N.H.) contributed five kills and senior
setter Sarah Cady (Holliston, Mass.) dished out 30
assists.
RIC middle blocker Tess Heidel (Warwick, RI), who was honored as
the Anchorwomen¹s lone senior prior to the match, led the
hosts with eight kills, two digs and two blocks. Sophomore outside
hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) posted five kills and a
team-high six digs.
