Box Score Panthers to host Husson on Sunday
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island College
men¹s soccer team scored three first half goals and played
shutout defense Saturday afternoon as the Anchormen defeated
Plymouth State University, 3-0, in Little East Conference play at
the RIC Soccer Field.
The Anchormen improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Little East play,
while the Panthers fall to 3-7-1 and 0-4, respectively.
RIC took an early lead in the 12th minute when junior Hector
Espildora Fortuno (Malaga, Spain) fired a free kick from just
outside the box in the vicinity of the goal, where it ricochet off
a PSU defender and into the left side of the goal to give RIC the
lead. The Anchormen increased their lead in the 20th minute
when junior Mike Patriarca (Warren, R.I.) dribbled up to the right
end line and delivered a perfect pass to senior Louis Tavares (East
Providence, R.I.), who sent his shot from in front of the goal
straight up into the ceiling of the net to double the advantage,
2-0.
Patriarca rounded out the scoring in the 37th minute, delivering a
bouncing shot past the dive of sophomore keeper Bjorn
Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden). Sophomore defender
Tucker Shepard (Tiverton, R.I.) earned an assist for his direct
throw-in to Patriarca.
Ohlsson registered four saves in net for the Panthers. RIC
junior keeper Nic Clark (East Bridgewater, Mass.) improved to 8-2
on the season, making two saves en route to his fifth shutout.
PSU has less than 24 hours to regroup, as the Panthers host Husson
College Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Rhode Island College will host
Salem State on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
