Jones named All-Tournament for
Panthers
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Plymouth State
University women's volleyball team posted a 1-2 record over
the weekend at the Tom Hay Invitational, hosted by Springfield
College. The Panthers defeated Bridgewater State University
on Friday evening, 3-0, but suffered losses on Saturday to
Westfield State University, 3-2, and host Springfield, 3-0.
Springfield finished the tournament with a 3-0 record to improve to
22-2 overall. Westfield went 2-1 and is now 13-9, while PSU is now
12-10 overall and Bridgewater State is 6-8.
Freshman Allie Jones (Canton, Mass.) was named to
the All-Tournament Team for PSU. Jones (right)
recorded 20 kills in the two-day event, including 14 kills in the
lost to Westfield State.
PSU cruised past Bridgewater State in the Friday night match,
25-16, 25-20, 25-18. Sophomore Casey
Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) and junior Elissa
Morin (Nashua, N.H.) each smashed 12 kills and Stoodley
recorded a team-high 11 digs to lead the Panthers.
The Panthers started Saturday morning's match by winning the
first two sets over Westfield State, 25-21 and 25-22. The
Owls came back, though, taking the match by winning the next three
sets, 25-23, 25-14 and 15-10. Stoodley registered another
double-double with 20 kills and 18 digs, and junior
Danielle Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) recorded a
team-best 21 digs.
Plymouth State was no match for Springfield in the final match,
falling to New England's third-ranked team. Casey
Stoodley had a team-high 10 kills, while Danielle Stoodley and
junior Sarah Cady (Holliston, Mass.) made seven
digs each.
After playing its last eight matches on the road, PSU will host
Southern Maine in a Little East Conference match Tuesday at 6:00
p.m.
