PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Defending national runner-up
Norwich University got goals from eight different players Friday
night and skated past Plymouth State University, 8-2, in ECAC
Women's East Conference action in the inaugural women's
ice hockey game at PSU's Hanaway Rink.
Senior Sarah Scardino (Stoughton, Mass.) and junior Julie Fortier
(Saint Malachie, Que.) led the Cadets with a goal and two assists
apiece. Norwich won its fourth straight to improve to 4-1
overall and 3-0 in league play, scoring four times in six power
play opportunities.

Plymouth State got goals from junior Brianna Davis
(Framingham, Mass.) on the power play and freshman Ali
Myers (Sammamish, Wash.). The Panthers dropped to
0-2 both overall and in conference play. Freshman goaltender
Ali Ponte (Richmond Hill, Ontario) had a busy
night between the pipes and finished with 35 saves as Norwich
out-shot the home team, 43-9.
Scardino and senior Brittane Michaud (Lewiston, Maine) tallied
power play goals in the first 10 minutes of the game to five
Norwich an early lead. Junior Melissa Rundlett (Saco, Maine)
added her first of the season before the end of the frame to make
it 3-0 at the first intermission.
Fortier and senior Sophie Leclerc (Barre, Vt.) extended the margin
to 5-0 in the second period before Davis put the Panthers on the
board just before the period ended, with an assist from freshman
Stephanie Newmark (Sydney, Australia).
Senior Kelsey Cone (Manchester, Vt.) tallied her first of the
season to open the third-period scoring. Myers got one back
for PSU at 12:48, but the Cadets tallied the final two goals, one
each by sophomore Jillyane DeBus (Howell, Mich.) and freshman Renee
Lortie (Cornwall, Ont.)
The Panthers are back on home ice Saturday with a 3:00 p.m.
face-off against Saint Michael's College. Norwich moves
on to face the University of Southern Maine Saturday at 4:00
p.m.
