Panthers fall despite big match from
Stoodleys
BEVERLY, Mass. – Second-seeded Keene State
College defeated third-seeded Plymouth State University,
three-sets-to-one, Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2010
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England
Women's Volleyball Tournament, hosted by top-seeded Endicott
College.
The two teams split the first two sets, Keene State winning the
first 25-19 and Plymouth State answering with a 25-20 decision in
the second. The Owls pulled out a tight third set, 25-21, and
clinched the verdict with a 25-19 win in the fourth set. KSC
went on to defeat Endicott in the championship match, 3-1.
PSU, which had advanced to the ECAC title game the past two
seasons, completes the 2010 campaign with a 19-14 overall
record.
Sophomore Casey Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) turned in
another exceptional performance for the Panthers, recording her
17th double-double of the season with a team-high 16 kills and 18
digs. Junior libero Danielle Stoodley
(Salem, N.H.) also made 18 digs and a team-high three service aces,
and senior Kelsey Petty (Salem, N.H.) and junior
Sarah Cady (Holliston, Mass.) added 15 and 14
digs, respectively, as PSU kept numerous Owls attack attempts
alive. Freshman Allie Jones (Canton, Mass.)
joined Casey Stoodley on the offense for PSU with 13 kills, and
Cady finished with 35 assists.
Kristen Girard led the Owls with 15 kills, and Bridget
O'Brien chipped in with nine. Jamie Levine registered a
team-high 24 digs.
